I Saw Eternity the Other Night
By Chris Douglas (C.S.Douglas)
I saw Eternity the other night,
The space round me was dressed in purple light;
A music-like vibration soothed me, though,
I saw the Endless End nowhere to go;
And time had run out of itself and dropped
As hours, minutes, and the seconds, stopped
While I was passing by the Milky Way
Into the vast of Nothingness inlaid;
But then I saw your face upon a star
So real there seemed and yet so far,
That I abruptly stretched into the space
To reach you and to catch your last embrace;
But shadows, flickering shades of butterflies
Sprayed cosmic sand into my sleepy eyes;
Shall I to reach you — Goddess of Unknown
Before my destination reach’ its own?
Oh, marble fair of a dream forlorn…
Beyond, so far beyond I let you be
That I’m afraid to see my Destiny;
For faster than the thought my wander strikes
Through black holes and dark matter in the skies;
As gasses and explosions fan without…
I looked for God to let me in or out,
Of this grave-voyage — so, I yelled and shout’
But no one heard my desperate calls, no one
As if Existent He’s no more than None…
From galaxy to galaxy I went
Into the Universal Lost I flew and rent,
And saw sometimes the Demigods who tried
To stop me from my damn-fast ailing ride,
By hurling bolts and oceans in my way,
With Brimstone, and with Fire and Hell decay,
And ‘ laughed at all of them… then ‘ suddenly stopped
In fear that Heaven was an image draft,
And that Eternity was just a magic play.
I turned and darted for a full return
As I ordained my Spirit to reborn
Into the human that I once have been,
Regardless of the Evil and the pain;
For better be alive a single day
Than spend Eternity in Heaven, heaven’s way -
For Paradise is nearby your side
Look up to it for it is Yours to ride
And play with God the game of ‘Seek and Hide.”’
I saw Eternity this very night…
The space round me was dressed in purple light;
The candles lighten by the fireplace
Gave me and her the sweetest of embrace;
We traveled far beyond the present time
While nightingales sprinkled songs and wine;
And time had run out of itself, and dropped,
As hours, minutes, and the seconds, stopped.
